On the Launch of the Southern Heritage Sites Map

September 15, 2025

We are pleased to announce the launch of the SHPS Southern Heritage Sites Map — an in-house project to identify, catalog, and map heritage sites across the American South in a free, interactive online format. Members of the public are invited to submit sites for inclusion via the submission form on our website. This project represents the Society's largest public engagement effort to date.

Statement on the Proposed Demolition of the Beauregard-Keyes House Annex

June 2, 2025

The Board of Directors of the Southern Historic Preservation Society has issued a formal statement opposing the proposed demolition of the 1870 annex adjoining the Beauregard-Keyes House in the French Quarter of New Orleans. We call upon the New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission to reject the application for demolition and to explore adaptive reuse alternatives consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards.

Announcing the SHPS Annual Lecture Series

January 10, 2024

Beginning in Spring 2024, the Southern Historic Preservation Society will host a quarterly lecture series featuring distinguished scholars, architects, and preservation professionals. Lectures will be held virtually and open to all members. Patron-level members and above will receive priority access to a post-lecture reception with the speaker.

Founding Circular: Establishment of the Southern Historic Preservation Society

Founded in 2020 by a small circle of historians, architects, and heritage advocates, the Society is dedicated to the scholarly research, documentation, and active preservation of the architectural, cultural, and social heritage of the American South.
